Here I am, three days in Norway at the DTS base.
After an amazing trip with my parents I said goodbye to them and got on the adventure that is called: Impact DTS.
When I arrived in Skien (pronounced as Shen) with my parents, we went to look at the DTS base before we were going into town. The people at base welcomed me with open arms. A day later I came with al my suitcases (yeah I really packed a lot, I’m not so good at packing and making choices). My roommate was already there and was amazed by how many suitcases and bags I brought. After a short tour through the building I started unpacking.
After that I got to know the rest of the DTS members: Amy (Canada), Chris (America), Peter (Germany), and my roommate Meike (Germany). The other members would be arriving later that day. Together with Thora (one of the staff) we were discovering Skien. We went to a statue that is called: the Rat Virgin. There is a photo in the gallery. It’s a very weird statue with all sorts of eyes. After the statue Thora had to leave and we walked to a playground and a small mall. The rest of the afternoon we played a lot of games.
Later that day the other three members arrived: Stian (Norway), Lucy (Norway) an Julia (Kenia). As DTS we had a welcoming diner and we did some more games. During one of the games I bumped my head against one of the brick arches in the basement.
The first night was hard. I got a little bit homesick and I thought it was very difficult to say that this is going to be my home for nine months. But I just went to bed and prayed and on day three it’s going a lot better, but I notice that sometimes I still get a bit homesick.
The two days after we got a lot of introduction and instructions about YWAM, cleaning the base and culture and so on. But we also visited some places in Skien like the church ruines and a bird watching tower.
This DTS group loves playing game, what is super nice because I do to. But a little bit sad it is that they don’t want to play Ligretto with me anymore because I won a lot.
Now this weekend we’re going on a spontaneous trip. We don’t know for howlong and not where to, but we know we need to bring our Bible and we will be going for at least two days. We can’t bring our cellphones or something that has the time on it. Together with my roommate Meike we packed one backpack. Together with Amy we braided our hair. I notice that I’m feeling much more at home every day and the people in my DTS are becoming more like friends everyday.
I keep you posted, and if you’ve got any questions you always can ask them!
Much Love,
Leonieke
