So here we are in BRASIL! After a 31 hour flight we finally arrived in Recifé. When we arrived it was raining very hard. That was somewhat unexpected but, it was in the middle of the night so not that bad.
In the room a challenge arose. One of the staff who had picked us up from the airport told us that they found three tarantulas that day and in the room there were a lot of bugs I rather would not have in my room……..
So the first night I wanted to go home hahah but, now that we are here already for a few days and after I borrowed Hannah’s musquitonet and later bought my own, it is going very well.
The base here in Recifé is huge! It even has a pool! We did a lot of practical work which involved carrying some stones, painting, carrying tiles and making a path through the jungle. The last one was the most challenging that I did haha.
Furthermore we did a lot with the boys and girls homes here at base. The boys and girls that live there are from the street or getting send through by the government. Here they get a home, food and a family until they get adopted or until they can go back to their family.
We did a lot of different games with them, eaten with them and just be with them. It really was amazing! Some girls even started calling us Tia (aunt) like the staff that are taking care of them.
Beside that we also did a prayerwalk through town where we prayed in different places for carnaval. It was so amazing to see Gods presence and to feel Gods presence in the places where we were. It was really cool!
We also visited a girls prison where we did a sketch and where we were able to share about how valuable they are. Afterwards we prayed with the girls which was so good for the girls. Some even shared more about where they are going through.
On the base itself we are participating in intercession and worship and help with the soccerproject. And we are just enjoying everything that we do! I also got to meet up with a missionairy from my church who lives in Recifé right now.
Last week was also a week of struggle. A lot of things happened right after each other which affected me a lot and how I was feeling. I also found out that I really miss my family and friends. I was talking to Hannah and we were talking about my cousin and all of a sudden I was crying hahah. This showed me that I miss my family more than that I show.
We now arrived in São Paolo and are staying with a super nice family! It is a gigantic house and it is amazing to be here. We are super grateful that these people opened up their house for us! Tomorrow we will go to the Sent which we are also super excited for!
It is amazing to see God work and to experience how He works through others and through other cultures.
Thank you so much for your messages, prayers and going along with me on this journey!
Love,
Leonieke
Prayerpoints:
- For the Recifé base for everyone there and for there future and all the ministries that they
are doing
- That our team may be more united during this outreach. More like one team.
- For the boys and girls at the Recifé base for their dreams and futures.
- That we will have a great time in São Paolo
- That the missing of family and friends and bad things that happen will not have the power
over my mood for the rest of the outreach
- We thank God for everything that we were able to do and for who we all got to meet
- For the soccerproject that there will be more boys and that they will hear more about who
God is
- For the team for boldness and that we may see and hear more from God. Where we
sometimes are seeking in what God wants and how He wants it
- For Juliët who still has to complete our team and for Artem who will come as an extra staff.
